Waiheke Walking Trust has some important news to share this month

Monthly Walk Series

Thank you to everyone who joined us on our Monthly Walk Series last month. We had a fantastic walk and were very lucky to have Sir Graham Henry our Waiheke Walking Festival Ambassador join us on the Ray White Waiheke Park Point Loop walk. We were also able to enjoy the impressive sculpture The Gateway at our picnic lunch spot. Thank you Shona Caughey & Jenn Singh, generous Waiheke Walking Trust patrons, for giving us access and sharing this treasure with us.

For this month’s walk, the Waiheke Walking Trust invites you to join us for a magical Full Moon walk on Onetangi Beach and surrounds. We are very lucky to have Dark Sky Waiheke Island guiding this walk for us. We will enjoy plenty of night sky viewing along the way, completing a little loop starting and finishing on the beach, with some up-close moon gazing through Dark Sky Waiheke Island’s telescopic equipment at the end.

Check our our website for more details about the walk and to reserve your spot.

When: Saturday 25 August, 6pm-8pm
Where: Onetangi Beach, Onetangi

Time to say goodbye to Denise and welcome a new Event Manager

It is with very mixed emotions that I have decided that this year will be the last of six years managing the Waiheke Walking Festival.

I absolutely love this event and am so proud of the journey the Festival has taken and how it looks now. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of this development, I have put a lot of love and energy in to the event and feel it is in safe hands under the strong governance of the Waiheke Walking Trust. I will remain as a volunteer Trustee, but it is now time for some new energy.

We are currently recruiting for a fabulous new Waiheke Walking Festival Event Manager so please spread the word! In the meantime, it is business as usual for me. I am determined to make the 2018 event the best yet and I very much look forward to saying goodbye to as many of you as possible, in person, at our Festival Finale which will be held at Bruce Plested’s beautiful Rorohara property on Sunday 25th November.

Thank you for all you have done to make this a fantastic six years of fun, busyness and absolute joy, I have loved it!

Denise xx

Keep your eyes peeled

We are so close to publishing our 2018 Waiheke Walking Festival programme, we will be sure to let you know via social media as soon as it is available. We have worked really hard to create a great selection of walks this year and we are really proud of this year’s programme. We look forward to enjoying some amazing walks with you this year.

As a wee teaser ahead of the full programme announcement….we can confirm Sir Graham and Lady Raewyn Henry will be guiding a walk on Saturday 24th November. And for those of you who missed out on the Ray White Waiheke Park Point Loop walk last month, there will be a twilight version of this walk finishing with sunset drinks at The Gateway sculpture on Friday 23rd November.

We suspect that both of these walks will be very popular so be sure to book your spot early. Remember, early bird registrations for Friends and Patrons open 1 September 2018 with general bookings from 1 October 2018.
