Strap on your hiking shoes, this walk is for the people who just love walking and love a challenge! We will tackle one of the best and the trickiest 12km sections of the 100km Te Ara Hura track. Starting at Trig Hill, we head down into the valley and meet the infamous ‘rope-assisted’ climb. The reward at the top is views forever as you trek over stunning farmland. Meet the quiet road in Awaawaroa and then your second challenge, up ‘that hill’ behind Poderi Crisci Winery, and again the rewards of winding down through the fabulous Awaawaroa-Te Matuku Walkway.

Finally we’ll meet the Orapiu road and as a wonderful Festival treat, head down a private drive to meet some locals. There’s an optional little extra walk down to the Te Matuku Marine Reserve, and/or you might get a cuppa and a scone 🙂

This walk is graded 9/10 – the toughest walk in the Festival. Please ensure a good level of fitness and hiking gear for this adventure. 

Bring a picnic lunch and plenty of water. A one-way bus back to the ferry is included in the price of this walk. (Stops at Onetangi Hall, Ostend shops, Surfdale Shops, and Oneroa by the Red Cross), plus our $15 premium walk fee and GST.
