Overview
Whakanewha Loop native forest exploration (including the Cascades) and lunch at Batch Winery

Meander through stunning Nikau forest and native bush which is shady in the summer and sheltered in the rain making this an all year-round favourite.

Wildlife galore on the beach with nesting rare New Zealand dotterels and supple jack, epiphytes, giant tree ferns and rata vine are just some of the flora along the route. Tūī, pīwakawaka (fantails), kererū (wood pigeons) and kōtare (kingfisher) may be seen in the bush making this a wildlife wonder!

Reward yourself with lunch at Batch winery with a glass of house wine or beer and delicious shared platters (and bus transfers) included in the price.

The bus leaves Matiatia Wharf at 9.10am and will make scheduled stops at Oneroa (opposite Red Cross), Surfdale, Ostend (opposite Woolworths), Onetangi Third Ave and to the Batch.  The bus will return at 1.30pm calling at all above stops in reverse.

This walk is graded 5 out of 10.  This means that the route involves off road walking tracks which have possibly narrow or muddy stretches and steep sections.  Please choose walks you are comfortable with and if you are booking for others, check with them too.  Thank you.

Price includes a $25 premium walk fee and GST.
